Sony's UX latest to get naked
Sony UXYou must know by now how much we adore gore n' guts of new toys especially those particularly small, compact devices that boggle the mind as to how they fit all that junk inside. One thing we didn't realize about Sony's UX UMPC Micro PC was that it was so freaking thick, but that said, it's still something of a little marvel of engineering that they got all that gear into a package as small as the UX appears to be.

Sony Vaio UX Micro PC
Sony Vaio UX Micro PCJust don't call it a UMPC. Like the "we don't need no stinkin' WMCE" days of yore, Sony is launching into a new market segment with little regard for the generally accepted Microsoft or Intel standards. They have just announced their new Vaio UX Micro PC, which seems more akin to an OQO device than a UMPC. For starters, this unit obviously has a hardware keyboard, which doesn't seem that bad of decision given the difficulty of using current gen UMPC keyboards.

Laptop Stands
laptopstandStaring at a computer all day can really be a pain in the neck or back. If your laptop is resting flat on your desk, you might want to consider a laptop stand to minimize the muscle strain from looking down. Raising the screen just a few inches will put your LCD closer to eye level, for easier viewing. Some models provide USB connectivity options, although these sub $100 stands are not full fledged docking stations.

Creative TravelSound Notebook 500 Speaker Review
Creative TravelSound Notebook 500 SpeakerWith the advances in technologies for laptops, you would think that we would have better integrated notebook speakers by now as well, but obviously that isn't the case. Lately there has been a trend to put speakers in the front of the laptop. For those of us that have this feature, you know that there is the good, the bad and the ugly.

The advantages of computer docking stations
docking stationDesktop computers have all of comforts of a full sized keyboard, mouse and big monitor. Don't try to slip one into a backpack or brief case, however, when you're on the move. You can do that easily with a lightweight laptop or notebook computer. With a laptop, you need only one computer for home, office, school, a vacation cottage or anywhere else you can imagine.

However, many people don't like the downsized features that come with all but top of the line desktop replacement laptops. Those include a downsized keyboard, a touchpad pointing device instead of a mouse, and a smaller monitor.

I've been using a wonderful solution to that comfort or portability dilemma at work.

File Transfer from PC to Laptop with USB Device
usb deviceIf you need to regularly transfer data from one laptop to another then a home or office network is the ideal answer, but let's face it, it's a tricky task for almost everyone out there, and although every subsequent version of Windows make's it easier, it's never going to be easy for noobs.

What to do then? Well obviously the boys at Thinkgeek.com have had a similar thought and have come up with the "USB Data Transfer Device". Now this isn't exactly the snappiest name for a product that I've ever heard, and true it will win no style awards, but what this little baby can do is just the ticket.

Microsoft Wireless Laptop Optical Mouse Review
msmouseFor the longest time I have relied on a normal sized corded mouse with my laptop. I only recently switched to wireless mice for mobile use but the mice were still full size desktop units. This is because I haven't found a single laptop sized mouse that felt good in my hand. That all changed when I discovered the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse. If you're a laptop user unable to warm up to a touchpad or pointing stick then you'll want to check this mouse out - it's an almost perfect for Laptop users.

Titan G3T Notebook Cooler
titancoolerAs far as cooling technology for notebooks goes, it is not implausible to argue that cooling options are much more limited than they are for desktop computers. Where water cooling was once seen as a form of extreme measure devised by enthusiasts for cooling performance processors in desktop computers, these days they can be readily purchased off the shelves and available in a host of reputable brands. Sadly, such bold yet efficient cooling apparatus are not yet available to notebook owners and while stock cooling modules found in modern notebooks are competent in keeping operational temperature of notebooks under check, aftermarket products such as the Titan G3T notebook cooler are what notebook owners need should they want to have an additional piece of mind from future heat related complications from their notebooks.

Get a Leg Up on Your Laptop
laptoplegsHere at Laptopical we have always been concerned about our readers' ergonomics, that is, exactly how well their notebooks are designed not only to look good, work well, but also to be used by a human being. When a laptop's ergonomics are bad, for example, you can suffer backaches, neck pains, and other health boo boos. The problem is-most laptops have bad ergonomics.

To use one on a flat table, for example, you have to move your elbows away from your body to get a better angle with your typing fingers. You may not know you are doing this until it's too late-until your back and shoulder muscles start to get tired.

Travel Light with the Flybook
flybookIt was literally only a day or two ago I was lamenting the lack of really small notebooks. Every single new laptop seemed to be sporting an ever-bigger screen and an ever-thinner body. I mean, what are we really after here - a very light but very awkward (size &\1 shape-wise) and possibly fragile desktop-replacement, or a truly portable, useful PC?

Giving Laptops the Advantages of the Dish
wifidishThe pole antennas on WiFi wireless broadband routers, laptops and adapters are omnidirectional; they radiate and receive signals from all directions. That gives you freedom of movement, but limited range with weakened reception.

Dish antennas, which are highly directional, narrowly beam the signals they transmit and pick up signals mainly from the direction they're aimed. Hawking Technology has applied that principle to WiFi (802.11a and 802.11g) wireless networks, with the Hi Gain U.S.B. Wireless Dish Adapter, or HWU8DD for short.

Dr. Bodelins Laptop Bumpers
bumpersLaptop Bumpers are an inexpensive and easy solution for laptop users that want the feel of a desktop keyboard, but want something more portable. The bumpers are designed to raise the back end of the laptop, creating an angle that allows better ventilation while raising the laptop, so the user is not typing on a flat surface. This gives the affect of typing on an external keyboard.

There are 3 components to Laptop Bumpers rubber stops, snap pads, and bumpers. The rubber stops are placed on the front corners and are designed to keep the laptop from sliding around. The snap pads are placed on the back corners and allow the bumpers to be removed when not in use. The bumpers also have snap pads, so when they are not in use, they can be snapped together for easy storage. The installation of everything only takes a couple of minutes, the bumpers can be attached or removed in just a few seconds.
