If you're looking to significantly enhance your laptop PC's sound playback/record capabilities, you may want to consider Turtle Beach's Audio Advantage Roadie. Smaller than a deck of playing cards and completely powered by the USB connection, the Roadie is a 7.1 channel USB audio interface with digital and analog I/O capabilities and a pair of built-in mics for recording in stereo.I tested the Roadie with Windows Sound Recorder and also with Cakewalk Sonar digital audio software, and the sound was outstanding. You can adjust the mic sensitivity, and I actually picked up cars swishing by in the rain 150 feet away from my house while I was inside!
